The Face of Battle is a tactical game that covers all aspects of World War Two skirmish miniatures gaming. Each player commands his or her forces with numerous combat, tactical and game options, utilizing skill rather than blind chance. Like soldiers in a battlefield, players make decisions under pressure. Players will guide their forces through enemy lines, across mined roads, fight under heavy fire, destroy enemy fortifications, engage in tank duels or close assault armour; the possibilities are endless.
All players participate in the battle concurrently using card decks. Action is fast and furious. Soldiers from all forces move, fire and engage in combat across the entire battlefield simultaneously. Each soldier is represented by one of more cards, and each player has one or more decks to represent their units. The cards indicate when a soldier, tank commander, leader or hero may act. Cards provide for a fluid, dynamic, interactive and exciting gaming session. The Face of Battle is designed for constant player activity and interaction.
Each figure on the gaming table represents one soldier or one tank. A turn may last one hour in real time, but only last 15 to 30 seconds in game time. The game simulates the events that occur during the apex of a battle.
In a typical game, each player controls 10 to 30 soldiers and 1 to 5 vehicles.
